Material editing on screen and layer organization for imports

Material editing comes to the screen app, removing one of the most significant gaps between what you could do on screen and what was only possible in VR. This release also introduces new import options that handle layer organization automatically, a useful addition for anyone managing rooms with large numbers of objects.

Edit materials without leaving Screen

A new materials panel is now accessible from the Screen app via a button in the top right of the navbar. It includes a paint bucket for applying materials, an eyedropper for sampling, a library of presets, recently used materials, and a custom material tab where you can fine-tune material type (clay, flat, and others), textures, and colors. Press Alt to quickly toggle between picker and painter modes, or right-click any object to access material editing directly.

Previously, Screen users who needed to change materials had to jump into VR, or ask a VR user in a collaborative session to do it for them. Now, materials are saved with a Room and accessible from both VR and Screen.

One thing worth knowing: custom material libraries aren’t yet saved per user within the panel. Presets you create in one session won’t carry over automatically, so you’ll need to set them up again next time.

Keep imported objects organized from the moment they land

2 new options are now available in the import UI for both Screen and VR, accessible as toggles below the “importing separate layers” setting. The first groups everything in a batch import into a single, auto-named layer. The second locks newly created layers by default, so imported content stays exactly where it landed until you’re ready to work with it.

For anyone managing Rooms with large numbers of imported models, this cuts the cleanup that used to follow every import. Objects that need to stay in place can be locked immediately, reducing the risk of accidentally moving something before you’ve had a chance to organize it.
