Measurement tool edge input, and screen improvements including subdivision controls

The latest Gravity Sketch update is here to give you more precision and smoother workflows. You can now take millimeter-accurate measurements right from the edge of your controller and manage mesh complexity with a new desktop slider. These additions help you confidently solve design problems and bring spatial understanding into every stage of product development.

Measure from the edge of your controller

Precision matters when you’re translating physical objects into virtual space. The measurement tool has been updated to let you shift the input generation point to the exact physical edge of your controller. This gives you millimeter-accurate measurements taken directly against real surfaces without having to guess the physical offset.

When you activate this feature in the settings menu, your controller becomes see-through so you can align the edge perfectly. It works seamlessly whether you’re drawing measurement lines or placing XYZ points. This is critical for physical-to-virtual workflows like measuring exact clay quantities off automotive models.

Take control of mesh complexity on screen

When accessing Rooms from your desktop or web browser, designers now have visual control over mesh subdivision levels directly in edit mode. The new subdivision levels slider appears automatically when you enter edit mode on any SubD object. Slide it down to 0 to disable subdivisions entirely, or dial it up to dynamically increase surface resolution and detail.

You’ll get exact visual feedback and manual control over mesh complexity right from your active edit panel. The result is a cleaner workflow with less unpredictable geometry.

Screen interactions and workflow fixes

The screen experience can be the best tool for documenting content and setting up a Room, ahead of jumping into VR. To continue building on recent improvements, a few more updates are now available based on user feedback.

  • Screenshot UI toggle: A new option lets you hide the user interface and other users when taking screenshots
  • Universal exit command: The escape key now functions as a universal exit or cancel command for most active tools, panels, and modes
  • Import customization: Object previews now default to a front isometric camera view, and you can edit an object’s dimensions immediately upon import
  • Cleaner environment view: The floor grid has been temporarily disabled on screen to reduce visual clutter
  • Aligned light beams: Light beam orientations will now accurately sync and show the correct direction within the menu panel
