Spatial alignment, file settings, and brush stroke quality update

Gravity Sketch 6.6.2 has been released. This update makes it easier to align your virtual and physical spaces, brings changes to how your files are set up, and improves your 3D printing workflows.

Accurately align virtual designs to physical space

Spatial Alignment locks your virtual room to your physical space, making it simple to overlay digital models onto real-world objects. Whether you’re checking ergonomics or validating space claims, collaboration in AR just got better; you can now align the virtual and physical quickly, and more reliably.

Alignment persists

Once you’ve set it up, anyone joining the same room and physical space can use that alignment. No more starting from scratch each session, and no more dropped sessions when someone leaves.

You’ll find Spatial Alignment in the Online Users menu. Create a new alignment, and the headset will guide you through a quick scan to improve accuracy. From there, the alignment is stored as part of your Room and available to anyone who needs it.

Spatial Alignment is available to Quest 2, 3, 3S, and Pro users, and can be used in solo or collaborative AR sessions.

Edit an existing Spatial Alignment

When you need to adjust positioning, Edit Alignment mode gives you precise tools to get it right:

  • Gumball: precisely transform Room content to align Physical with Virtual
  • Transparency: lower transparency to better see far-side edges for alignment
  • Free movement: move Room content with offhand-grab, or scale with grab-stretch
  • Align sketch to floor: Automatically moves the lowest part of the data to the real-world floor

These are available to everyone using the Spatial Alignment, making collaboration sessions in AR more seamless than before.

Getting file consistency across teams

File settings and user preferences are now separated in Gravity Sketch. This gives you clarity and control over what affects your files and what’s just personal to you. File settings cover the fundamentals like up axis, forward axis, and readout units, which now persist with the file itself.

When your file settings are defined, you can trust that imported data will land correctly and exports will go downstream without manual fixes. User preferences like scale snap and ghost move stay with you across sessions. You’re not reconfiguring things every time you open a file.

You can save your own defaults for file settings to start new drafts faster. If you’re working in a Room with undefined file settings and conflicting defaults across users, Gravity Sketch will flag it. This helps teams spend less time correcting data and more time moving designs forward.

Higher fidelity round brush strokes for 3D printing workflows

Your 3D prints should look as smooth as the strokes you create. With improved mesh quality settings, exports from Gravity Sketch now translate more accurately to physical prints. Previously, exported round strokes were rendered as cylinders with 12 sides, creating a faceted look.

Now, selecting High or Extreme mesh quality on export increases the resolution of round strokes to 24 and 36 sides respectively. The result is smoother curves and fewer post-processing steps to get the finish you want. 3D printing exports default to High quality, so you’ll see the improvement automatically.
